The cost of popular prescription drugs, including those used for weight management and diabetes, is undergoing a significant shift with the launch of February 5, 2026, TrumpRx.gov. This new website, announced by President Donald Trump, aims to provide Americans with access to lower drug prices, aligning with costs paid in other developed nations.

Lower Prices on Key Medications

The initiative focuses initially on February 5, 2026, 40 branded medications, with a particular emphasis on Ozempic and Wegovy, drugs widely used for managing type 2 diabetes, obesity, and related conditions. According to the White House, the monthly price of Ozempic will fall from $1,028 to an average of $350, with some dosages available for as low as $199. Wegovy, an injectable medication for weight loss, will see a price reduction from $1,349 to an average of $350, also with potential for lower costs depending on dosage.

These price reductions are being achieved through agreements with pharmaceutical manufacturers – AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer – to offer “most favored nation” (MFN) pricing to American patients. This means U.S. Prices will be comparable to the lowest prices offered in other developed countries.

How TrumpRx.gov Works

TrumpRx.gov functions as a platform connecting patients with these discounted prices. Users with valid prescriptions can access savings through printable or downloadable coupons, or through channels established directly with the manufacturers and integrated into the website. The site allows users to search for their prescriptions and view available discounts. According to Joe Gebbia, the country’s Chief Design Officer, the process involves finding a cheaper drug option, printing a coupon, and presenting it at a pharmacy.

The website is designed to be user-friendly and free to use, allowing patients to compare prices without obligation. Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, highlighted the potential impact of lower prices on GLP-1 drugs, suggesting that “America will lose about 100 million pounds this year” as a result.

Impact on Seniors and Medicare

A separate deal, announced recently, promises even more substantial savings for seniors on Medicare. Monthly out-of-pocket costs for Ozempic and similar GLP-1 drugs could be reduced to $50 for many Medicare beneficiaries. This represents a significant decrease from current costs and could greatly improve access to these medications for older adults.

Broader Implications for Drug Pricing

The launch of TrumpRx.gov represents a significant attempt to address the long-standing issue of high prescription drug costs in the United States. President Trump has stated that the U.S. Will now pay the lowest price for medications compared to other countries, even suggesting that drug costs may increase globally while decreasing for Americans. This approach, however, could have complex international implications for pharmaceutical pricing and access.

The initiative extends beyond Ozempic and Wegovy, encompassing a range of medications, including those used for fertility treatments. Dr. Oz jokingly predicted an increase in births, stating, “We’re gonna have a lot of Trump babies with these costs.”

Limitations and Considerations

Currently, purchases made through TrumpRx.gov require cash payments, meaning that insurance cannot be used to offset the cost. This may limit access for some individuals, particularly those without sufficient disposable income. The long-term effects of the MFN pricing model on the pharmaceutical industry and drug innovation remain to be seen. While the initial focus is on drugs from five manufacturers, the program is expected to expand as more companies sign onto the MFN agreements.

The success of TrumpRx.gov will depend on continued participation from pharmaceutical companies and the ability to effectively navigate the complexities of the U.S. Healthcare system. It is important for patients to consult with their healthcare providers to determine if these discounted medications are appropriate for their individual needs and medical conditions.

Novo Nordisk lowered the direct-to-consumer prices of its weight loss drug Wegovy and diabetes treatment Ozempic in November 2025 after President Trump’s initial deal, indicating a proactive response from the pharmaceutical industry to the changing pricing landscape.
