Trump Policies: How Billionaires Quietly Profit

President Donald Trump’s⁣ economic agenda, including significant tax cuts, continues to draw scrutiny over its benefits for the wealthiest Americans. A report by the Center for Popular Democracy in Action highlights‍ how billionaires and corporate executives are positioned to gain from ⁤Trump’s‍ policies, particularly in‍ areas like immigration and deregulation.

The report identifies key beneficiaries, including major Trump campaign donors such⁣ as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and⁢ Peter Thiel. Trump’s push to deregulate sectors ‌like artificial intelligence, the surroundings, ‌and labor, coupled with corporate tax ⁣cuts, stands to further enrich these individuals.

One notable example is George Zoley, founder‌ of GEO Group, a private prison‍ and immigrant detention company. Zoley said Trump’s policies presented an “unprecedented opportunity” for growth.‌ Sence Trump’s election,‍ GEO Group’s stock value ⁢has reportedly doubled. The company secured a $1 billion contract from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to open a major ⁢detention center on the ‍East Coast and has expanded its work in surveillance technology.

GEO Group is also expected to profit from the⁢ Laken Riley Act. Over the⁣ past 17 ‍years, the company has received $9 million in state ⁤and ‍local ‌subsidies.

Analilia ⁣Mejia and DaMareo Cooper, co-executive directors at Popular Democracy in Action, said ‌Trump’s presidency enables billionaires ‌to exploit the government ⁣for personal gain, while working people bear the brunt. They argue that cuts to programs like Medicare, housing, and SNAP ⁣are intentional moves to convert public suffering into private profit.

The report also notes that more ‌than 10 billionaires hold positions ‌in the Trump governance, making‍ it the wealthiest cabinet‍ in history. Other wealthy donors and corporate executives are also exerting political influence, including Stephen Schwarzman⁣ of Blackstone, ‌David Ricks of Eli Lilly, ⁢and Harold G.Hamm of⁢ Continental⁢ Resources.

Hamm, who was⁤ part of trump’s ⁤transition team, has advocated for the oil and gas⁤ industry. He⁤ has collaborated with Interior ‌Secretary Doug Burgum to ⁤open public lands to drilling, potentially benefiting his‍ company.

The Center for Popular Democracy in Action argues that the U.S.is ‍increasingly functioning as an oligarchy, where a small group of wealthy individuals control political decisions.
