Medvedev Mocks Trump’s ’Walking Dead’ Remark, Warns of ‘Dead Hand’
Moscow, Russia – A heated exchange between former US President Donald Trump and Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has taken a chilling turn, with Medvedev invoking the specter of Russia’s legendary “Dead Hand” nuclear system in response to Trump’s verbal jabs.
The dispute, which has been simmering online, escalated after Trump publicly labeled medvedev a “failed” leader and issued a stern warning to “watch his words.” Medvedev, never one to shy away from a sharp retort, fired back with a scathing message, cautioning against pushing moscow too far.
His response directly referenced the “Perimetr” system, an automatic nuclear retaliation system dating back to the Soviet era, which is widely believed to still be operational within Russia. While Moscow has never officially confirmed its existence, Western analysts widely consider it a crucial, albeit terrifying, last-resort deterrent.
“And about India’s and Russia’s ‘dead economies’ and ‘entering very dangerous territory’ – well, let him remember his favorite movies about ‘the walking dead,’ and also how dangerous the fabled ‘Dead Hand’ can be,” Medvedev wrote in a post that has since gone viral.
The reference to “walking dead” appears to be a direct jab at Trump’s own rhetoric, while the mention of “dead Hand” serves as a stark reminder of Russia’s nuclear capabilities. The system, often referred to as “Dead Hand,” is designed to automatically launch a retaliatory nuclear strike if Russia’s command and control centers are destroyed in a first strike, ensuring a devastating response even if the leadership is incapacitated.
Adding another layer to the unfolding drama, Trump had previously claimed that he had deployed nuclear submarines in response to Medvedev’s tweets. However, both the White House and the Pentagon have remained tight-lipped, offering no further comments on the matter. The exact locations and patrol areas of US nuclear submarines are among the military’s most closely guarded secrets, making Trump’s claim impossible to verify at this time.
This verbal sparring highlights the volatile nature of international relations and the ever-present shadow of nuclear deterrence. As tensions continue to simmer, the world watches closely, hoping that such exchanges remain confined to the digital realm and do not spill over into more dangerous territory.
