Trump Putin Ukraine War Timeline
Trump sets New 10-Day Deadline for Putin to End Ukraine War,Threatens Sanctions
US President Donald Trump has declared a new, significantly shortened deadline of “about 10 or 12 days” for Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease hostilities in Ukraine. the declaration came during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the Trump Turnberry golf resort in Scotland.
Trump expressed his disappointment with Putin’s continued actions, stating, “There’s no reason in waiting, we just don’t see any progress being made.” This marks a dramatic acceleration from a previous 50-day deadline he had set for Russia to agree to a ceasefire.
“I’m going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to a lesser number because I think I already know the answer what’s going to happen,” Trump remarked, indicating a lack of optimism regarding a peaceful resolution without further pressure.
Sanctions and Tariffs Loom as Diplomatic Pressure Mounts
The US President outlined a clear strategy of imposing penalties on Moscow should its demands not be met within the new timeframe.”There’s no reason to wait. If you know what the answer is going to be, why wait? And it would be sanctions and maybe tariffs, secondary tariffs,” Trump stated. He added, however, that he “doesn’t want to do that to Russia” and expressed affection for the Russian people.
Trump has consistently voiced his frustration with putin’s ongoing military operations in Ukraine, despite what he describes as US efforts to broker peace. Prior to his return to the White House in January, Trump had publicly pledged to resolve the protracted conflict, which has spanned over three and a half years, within a mere 24 hours.
Past Promises and Present Frustrations
The President has previously threatened new sanctions on Russia and its trading partners if an agreement was not reached by early September. However, his approach has been characterized by a mix of strong rhetoric and a perceived reluctance to fully implement punitive measures, often citing a previously positive relationship with Putin.
“We thought we had that settled numerous times, and then President Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people in a nursing home or whatever,” trump lamented. “And I say that’s not the way to do it.”
The President also indicated a shift away from further diplomatic engagement with Putin, stating on Monday that he was ”not interested in more talks.” This firm stance, coupled with the imminent threat of economic sanctions, signals a potentially decisive phase in the US-led efforts to de-escalate the conflict in Ukraine.
