Trump reveals what Ukraine will receive in exchange for the signing of a joint natural resources

U.S.-Ukraine Agreement on Natural Resources: A Strategic Move for Both Nations

In a significant development, President Donald Trump announced that an agreement with Ukraine on natural resources will provide Ukraine with the right to continue its fight against Russian aggression. This was revealed during a press conference in the White House’s Oval Office on Tuesday. The agreement, set to be signed as early as Friday, includes a substantial financial and military aid package, along with joint development of Ukrainian mineral resources.

When asked about the benefits Ukraine would receive from signing the treaty, President Trump highlighted the economic and military support: “$350 billion, lots of equipment, military equipment and the right to fight further.”

“I have to say – Ukraine … They are very brave, they are good soldiers. But without the US and their money and military equipment, this war would end very quickly,” the US president said.

Trump also addressed the duration of military aid to Ukraine, stating that it could continue until a comprehensive agreement with Russia is reached. “Maybe until we have an agreement with Russia. We need an agreement. Otherwise it will continue,” the president replied.

According to the State Department, the U.S. has provided approximately $69.2 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. This aid has been crucial in sustaining Ukraine’s defense efforts, but the new agreement aims to provide a more sustainable solution.

Ukrainian officials confirmed that the terms of the mineral agreement have been agreed upon and that President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Washington on Friday to sign the agreement. Trump confirmed Zelensky’s visit, emphasizing the significance of the deal. “I heard it. I heard he would arrive on Friday,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “He would like to sign it with me, and I understand it – it’s a big, very big deal,” Trump added.

The agreement stipulates that the U.S. will jointly develop Ukrainian mineral resources, with the revenue going to a newly created fund shared by both countries. A senior Ukrainian official, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that the U.S. had demanded access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals as compensation for the billions in military aid provided during President Joe Biden’s administration.

The official also mentioned that the draft agreement includes a clause on security, though the specifics of the U.S.’s role in providing security guarantees are not clearly defined. “There is a general clause saying that America will invest in a stable and prosperous sovereign in Ukraine, that it works to achieve lasting peace, and that America supports the efforts to guarantee security,” the official said.

Washington has also removed conditions unfavorable to Ukraine, including a provision that required Ukraine to provide $500 billion worth of resources. This adjustment reflects a more balanced approach, ensuring that Ukraine’s interests are protected while fostering a mutually beneficial partnership.

This agreement is a strategic move for both nations. For the U.S., it secures access to critical minerals essential for various industries, including defense and technology. For Ukraine, it provides much-needed financial and military support, bolstering its defense capabilities against Russian aggression. The agreement also sets a precedent for future international cooperation, emphasizing mutual benefit and strategic partnership.

However, some critics argue that the agreement may not go far enough in addressing Ukraine’s security concerns. They point out that the U.S. has historically been hesitant to provide explicit security guarantees, which could leave Ukraine vulnerable in the long term. Proponents, on the other hand, see the agreement as a significant step forward, highlighting the substantial economic and military support it provides.

As the world watches, the implications of this agreement extend beyond the borders of Ukraine and the U.S. It serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges. The agreement could also pave the way for similar partnerships, fostering stability and prosperity in regions affected by conflict.

In conclusion, the U.S.-Ukraine agreement on natural resources is a landmark deal that promises to strengthen both nations’ strategic positions. By providing Ukraine with the means to continue its fight and securing access to critical minerals, the agreement underscores the importance of mutual benefit and strategic partnership in international relations.
