U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Saturday, May 2, 2026, that he is reviewing a new proposal from Iran intended to end the current conflict, while asserting that the Iranian government has not yet paid a big enough price for what it has done to humanity
.
The proposal, described as a 14-point peace plan, was submitted by Tehran as part of an effort to resolve a war launched by the United States and Israel in late February 2026. The conflict has been on hold since April 8, 2026, following a failed round of peace talks held in Pakistan.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday before boarding Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida, President Trump indicated he had been informed of the concept of the deal
but was awaiting the exact wording of the proposal.
Despite the submission of the plan, the president expressed skepticism regarding its viability. In a post on Truth Social, Trump confirmed he would review the document but stated that he can’t imagine that it would be acceptable
.
Conditions for Resuming Military Action
President Trump paired his review of the peace proposal with a warning that the United States remains prepared to resume military operations. He stated that the U.S. Could restart strikes on Iran if they misbehave
.

The renewed proposal from Iran reportedly includes terms regarding shipping and the Strait of Hormuz. A senior Iranian official stated on Saturday that the proposal, which Trump had previously rejected in an earlier form, would aim to open shipping lanes.
Conflict Timeline and Diplomatic Efforts
The current military engagement began in late February 2026, led by a coalition of U.S. And Israeli forces. The intensity of the conflict shifted in April, leading to a period of relative inactivity starting April 8, 2026.
Diplomatic attempts to secure a ceasefire have thus far been unsuccessful. The most notable effort occurred during a round of talks in Pakistan, which failed to produce a lasting agreement before the current proposal was drafted.
The 14-point plan now under review represents Tehran’s latest attempt to establish a framework for ending the war, though the U.S. Administration’s insistence that Iran has not suffered sufficient consequences suggests that a breakthrough remains unlikely in the immediate term.
