Trump Security Scare: Witness Footage Leads to Dramatic Arrest of Rifle-Wielding Man
US Investigators Foil Assassination Attempt on Former President Trump
US investigators announced on the 15th that they had arrested a man on suspicion of attempting to shoot former President Donald Trump while he was playing golf at a golf course in Palm Beach County, Florida.
According to investigators, agents of the Secret Service spotted the barrel of a rifle peeking out from among some bushes near the former Republican presidential candidate at around 1:30 p.m. (2:30 a.m. Japan time on the 16th) and fired at the man.
The FBI has said it “appears to be an assassination attempt” on Trump.
Several police cars were seen blocking roads near the scene and diverting traffic.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said at a press conference that he received a call from the Secret Service shortly after the incident and quickly cordoned off the area around the incident.
A witness provided police with information about the suspect’s vehicle and license plate number, and the man’s car was spotted.
He also said that a Secret Service security officer moved in front of Trump at each hole at the golf course, and that the officer “saw the barrel of a rifle peeking over the fence and immediately confronted the individual, who then fled.”
“We are safe and secure,” Trump wrote in an email to supporters.
