De Niro, known for his roles in Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Raging Bull, has frequently criticized Trump in public statements across the actor’s career.

Years of Escalating Hollywood Feuds

De Niro has established himself as one of the president’s most outspoken detractors in Hollywood, according to The Independent. Ahead of the 2016 presidential election, the Manhattan-born actor referred to Trump as a “pig,” a “punk” and a “bulls*** artist.”

In subsequent years, De Niro escalated his criticism. In 2019, he described the president as “evil” and added that he could not wait to see him in jail, as noted by The Independent. More recently, in statements to USA Today reported by The Independent last month, De Niro remarked that he no longer uses the word hope regarding the administration and asserted that they have to be gotten out.

Trump Fires Back with Social Media Attacks

Trump has frequently responded with sharp public criticisms of his own. In 2024 posts on Truth Social cited by The Independent, the president wrote that he never knew how small De Niro was mentally and physically, labeling the actor a low IQ individual with a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Digital Altercations and Past Deepfake Videos

The recent image follows a history of public feuds and digital altercations between Trump and various entertainment industry figures, including Alec Baldwin, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, and Rosie O’Donnell, according to The Independent.

In July, Trump shared an artificial intelligence-generated video on social media depicting himself dressed as a doctor treating several outspoken Hollywood critics for what he termed “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” That video featured deepfake versions of public figures including De Niro, Rosie O’Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, John Leguizamo, Edward Norton, and Julia Roberts. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle backed the video, asserting that the syndrome is a crippling disease that has unfortunately rotted the brains of many people. Representatives for the featured celebrities have not responded to the content.
