Trump State of the Union: “America is Back” – Key Highlights
Trump Declares “America is Back” in State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Union address Tuesday evening, proclaiming “Our nation is back – stronger, better, richer, and more powerful than ever before.” The speech, delivered before a divided Congress, focused heavily on economic achievements and a vision for a renewed America as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary.
“In less than five months, our country will celebrate the 250th anniversary of our glorious American independence,” Trump stated. “You haven’t seen anything yet, we will always do better – this is the golden age of America.” He asserted that his administration has brought about a “transformation never seen before” and vowed the country would not return to its previous state.
The address was punctuated by moments of disruption, including the removal of Democratic Representative Al Green from the chamber after he displayed a sign reading “Blacks are not monkeys,” reportedly in response to a recent video shared by Trump that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as primates.
Trump dedicated a significant portion of his speech to highlighting his administration’s efforts on immigration, claiming “not a single entry” at the border has occurred in recent months. He then turned to economic successes, stating that the U.S. Had been a “dying country” before becoming “the most fit country.” He cited a decrease in inflation and falling gasoline prices, alongside attracting $18 trillion in foreign investment.
“Thousands of new companies are taking shape, oil production has increased, and we just received from Venezuela, our new partner, more than 80 million barrels,” Trump said, also touting “an enormous tax cut.”
The President also addressed the issue of tariffs, stating he used them to secure “great deals” in both economic and national security matters. He indicated that many countries are eager to maintain existing trade agreements, fearing worse conditions in future negotiations. This came after a recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down a significant portion of the tariffs he had previously implemented. Trump signaled his intention to reintroduce the tariffs through new measures.
Trump took a moment to recognize the U.S. Men’s hockey team, fresh off a victory at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, calling their win “fantastic” and extending an invitation to the White House. He also celebrated the success of the U.S. Women’s hockey team.
Looking ahead, Trump announced plans to address affordability through new measures, including a program requiring technology companies to cover increased electricity costs associated with artificial intelligence data centers. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the President intends to persuade voters that Republican leadership has improved their lives and deserves continued support in the upcoming midterm elections.
The speech comes at a time of political division, with Congress currently at an impasse over funding for the Department of Homeland Security amid growing opposition to the President’s immigration policies. Trump is hoping to use the address to rally support for his agenda and demonstrate the strength of the economy under his leadership.
