Trump Takes Aim Again: Is the Latest Shot a Bullseye or a Misfire
Donald Trump Safe After Shots Fired Near Him in Florida
Former President and second-term candidate Donald Trump is safe after shots were fired near him in Florida, his campaign headquarters and the US Secret Service confirmed.
The incident occurred shortly before 2 pm local time, while Trump was playing golf at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, near his Mar-a-Lago home. The US Secret Service, responsible for protecting Trump, is investigating the incident.
According to reports, the shots were fired during an argument between two individuals near the golf course. It is unclear if the shots were aimed at Trump, and there are no indications that he was targeted.
This incident comes about two months after Trump was allegedly attacked at a rally in Pennsylvania, where he sustained a scratch on his ear. Trump had returned to Florida over the weekend after a visit to the US West Coast, which included an overnight rally in Las Vegas and a fundraiser in Utah.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reported no injuries, and Trump’s campaign headquarters have not released any further details. The White House stated that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had been briefed on the incident and would receive updates on the investigation.
A law enforcement official, speaking anonymously, revealed that the investigation is focused on determining whether the shots were fired on the grounds of the West Palm Beach golf course or nearby.
Donald Trump Jr. stated that local law enforcement informed him that a Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK-47) was found in the bushes, and a suspect had been detained.
Trump frequently plays golf in the morning, followed by lunch at his golf club, one of three he owns in Florida. Security measures around him have been increased since the previous incident in July, with additional precautions such as armored glass walls at outdoor rallies.
