Trump Issues Stark warning to Hamas Over Hostages
President-elect Vows ‘Heavy Price’ if Captives Not Released Before Inauguration
In a fiery message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, President-elect Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of hostages held in the Gaza strip.
Trump’s statement comes on the heels of the Israeli government confirming the death of Omar Neutra, a dual American-Israeli citizen whose body is believed to be in Hamas’s possession.
“If the hostages are not released before January 20, 2025, the date I proudly assume the office of President of the United States, there will be a heavy price in the Middle East,” Trump declared. “Those responsible for these atrocities against humanity will suffer more than the long and storied history of the United States. Release the hostages now!”
Adding to the tension, Hamas announced on Monday evening the deaths of 33 Israeli prisoners in their custody, attributing their demise to Israeli bombardment of Gaza. the group released a video on telegram, stating, “33 Israeli prisoners have been killed and some of them missing because of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his stubbornness.”
This escalation follows Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, wich has claimed the lives of 1,208 people, primarily civilians. During the attack, 251 individuals were abducted from Israeli settlements, with 97 still held captive in Gaza.
While 105 hostages were released in a prisoner exchange deal in November 2023, the situation remains volatile. Israel has responded with intense bombing campaigns and military operations in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of over 44,000 Palestinians, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
The international community watches with bated breath as the hostage crisis unfolds, with Trump’s ultimatum adding another layer of complexity to an already dire situation.
