Trump: Trilateral Zelensky-Putin Meeting Mandatory After Alaska Summit

Trump: Trilateral Zelensky-Putin Meeting Mandatory After Alaska Summit

August 14, 2025 Ahmed Hassan - World News Editor World

On the eve of the US and Russian leaders, US President Donald Trump is ready to introduce to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, a proposal that It includes several economic concessions to Russia in exchange for peace in Ukraine.

The proposal includes several incentives, including access to Alaska’s natural resources, as well as to Ukrainian rare land minerals and the survey of some sanctions against the Russian aeronautical industry, according to the The Telegraphcited at Euronews, this Thursday.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and other administration officials are apparently preparing proposals for Friday.

Expectations about the Alaska meeting between Putin and Trump are increasingly higher, although Donald Trump has already said that same day that this meeting It serves to “make way for another.

He stressed the need for a next meeting and this one will already have the president of Ukraine. It will then be a Trilateral Summit.

“The second meeting will be very, very important, because it will be the one where they – Putin and Zelensky – will come to an agreement. And I don’t want to use the term ‘dividing things’, but in a way it is not a bad term”defended Trump.

Anyway, the US president said he was hopeful that Putin is ready for an agreement on Ukraine, but the Kremlin has already warned against the expectation of a great result of the Alaska meeting.

In the same interview with Fox News and in the face of the whole context of international pressure, the US president estimated the risk of conversations in Alaska not successful in “25 percent”.

The bilateral summit in the US state will be centered above all in the possibilities of peace in Ukraine, and the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is not foreseen.

The meeting between Trump and his Russian homologist will be held at an US air base on the outskirts of Anchorage.

However, an intense Russian offensive to Ukraine targets and the exclusion of Zelensky from Friday’s meeting increased fears in Europe that Trump and Putin could reach an agreement that force territorial concessions to Ukraine.

The US leader initially said that “there would be concessions in borders and territories,” but he renamed this topic to talk to European leaders on Wednesday.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also emphasized that while Alaska’s meeting could succeed in disrupting the short -term Ukraine fighting, it will take more time to achieve a lasting peace solution.

Russia says he won’t sign any documents

However, also on Thursday, the Russian presidency reported that it provides “complex discussions” at the meeting in Alaska and noted that they will not sign any documents.

“It’s not expected. Nothing has been prepared. There will hardly be a document”said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov, in statements to Russian public television, regarding the possibility of the two presidents subscribing to a formal text about the war in Ukraine.

The spokesman said that the Russian side leaves for the meeting with “Political goodwill demonstrated by presidents of both countries to solve problems through dialogue” and that “the most difficult questions will be addressed.”

When asked if the two leaders plan to discuss an exchange of territories between Russia and Ukraine to resolve the conflict, Peskov replied that “obviously, issues related to the Ukrainian solution will be addressed,” this “is a very complex and multifaceted subject.”

The Russian leader “will explain the agreements and understandings achieved” at a joint press conference with the US homologist, Peskov said.

On the eve of the summit, Putin praised the “energetic and sincere” efforts of the United States to end the fighting in Ukraine.
