Donald Trump’s campaign team raised eyebrows after posting a TikTok video featuring Taylor Swift’s “Life of a Showgirl.” The video, seemingly mocking the former president’s legal troubles, has gone viral, amassing over 570,000 likes.
The video opens with the line “Don’t care where the hell you been” over an image of Trump’s mugshot taken at Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail after he turned himself in on felony charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. later, the “Fate of America” caption appears alongside a picture of Trump scooping fries at McDonald’s.
The caption on the video reads, “OUR VIBES ðºð¸.”
Representatives for Swift did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.
Trump’s History of Anti-Swift remarks
The use of “Life of a Showgirl” is particularly odd, considering Trump’s well-documented disdain for Swift. In September, he declared, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on Truth Social. He followed up in May with,”Has anyone noticed that,as I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?'” In August,he used controversy surrounding Sydney Sweeney to fire off more anti-Swift remarks.
“Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift,” trump wrote on Truth Social. “Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned – Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.”
Swift’s Political Views
Swift has been openly critical of Trump, particularly his handling of Black Lives Matter protests and attempts to dismantle the U.S. Postal Service. She has also condemned AI-generated images of her endorsing his presidential run. Swift supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election and backed Kamala Harris in 2024.
The Trump campaign is not the first to face criticism for using popular songs and viral trends in social media uploads. Jess glynne condemned the Trump Administration’s use of her 2015 hit single “Hold My Hand” in a “Jet2 Holiday” commercial meme to promote U.S. Immigration and customs Enforcement (ICE) deportations, saying it “makes me sick.” She added, “My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity, never about division or hate.”
