The United States and Iran are preparing for a potential resumption of hostilities as diplomatic efforts to extend a fragile ceasefire falter, with President Donald Trump indicating that military action could restart if no deal is reached by Wednesday evening.
Trump told CNBC that he expects the U.S. To secure a “great deal” with Iran, expressing confidence in America’s negotiating position despite Tehran’s warnings of retaliation over a seized ship and its claim of holding “new cards” should fighting resume.

The current ceasefire, which has paused hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz since late February, is set to end Wednesday evening according to Trump, who said it is “highly unlikely” he would extend it without a substantive agreement.
And Trump told Bloomberg it was “highly unlikely” he would extend the ceasefire without a deal.

In response, Iranian forces fired what appeared to be warning shots at foreign vessels trying to pass through the trade route.
Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi declared the strait open on Friday amid a new ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, where the Iranian terrorist proxy Hezbollah operates. But a day later, with the U.S. Blockade of Iranian shipping still in full effect outside of the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranians fired what appeared to be warning shots at foreign vessels trying to pass through the trade route.
