TrumpRx: What Doctors Need to Know About the New Drug Pricing Site

A new federal platform, TrumpRx, launched on February 5, 2026, aims to lower prescription drug costs for Americans by providing access to discounted prices. While the initiative has garnered attention, understanding its functionality and limitations is crucial for both patients and healthcare professionals.

How TrumpRx Works

TrumpRx is not a pharmacy itself. Instead, it functions as a portal directing consumers to drug manufacturers’ websites where they can potentially purchase medications at lower prices. The platform displays discounted drug pricing offers, but does not sell medication directly. As Kaye Pestaina, vice president and director of KFF’s patient and consumer protections program, explained, “It’s a portal where someone can check if they can find a cheaper price, direct-to-consumer, from a drug manufacturer. It’s not a storefront.”

Currently, TrumpRx features discounted pricing for 40 medications from five pharmaceutical manufacturers: AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer. The discounts are achieved through what the White House refers to as “Most-Favored-Nation” (MFN) pricing, aiming to align U.S. Drug prices with the lowest prices available in other developed nations. For example, the platform highlights a significant price difference for Gonal-F, 450IU per pen, comparing a U.S. Current price of $1449 to a Canada global reference price of $355.

To access these discounts, patients with valid prescriptions can utilize coupons printed or downloaded from the platform, or through channels set up directly by the manufacturers.

Who Can Benefit from TrumpRx?

Currently, TrumpRx is designed for cash-paying patients. It does not accept insurance, meaning that spending on drugs through the platform will not count toward a consumer’s insurance deductible. This limitation means the platform may be particularly beneficial for individuals who are uninsured, have high deductibles, or whose medications are not covered by their insurance plans.

The platform’s focus on cash prices is a key aspect of its potential impact. As noted by Dr. Brett Osborn, a Florida neurosurgeon, the concept is “solid” in that it prioritizes cheaper, cash-pay drug prices.

In other words that for many Americans, utilizing their insurance will still be the more cost-effective option. The platform currently only includes discounts for a limited number of medications from a select group of manufacturers.

It’s also important to understand that TrumpRx doesn’t prescribe, dispense, or sell medications. It simply directs patients to manufacturers offering discounts. This means patients still need a prescription from their healthcare provider to take advantage of the program.
