President Donald Trump will finally have his military parade in Washington, D.C., an idea he has reportedly
cherished since his frist term. The parade is scheduled for June 14, coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday
and the Army’s 250th anniversary.
The military parade will feature a large display of equipment, including 28 Abrams
tanks and 28 armored personnel carriers. Over 6,700 soldiers, 50 helicopters, a World War II-era B-25 bomber,
two mules, and a dog are also slated to participate in the Army anniversary
festivity.
The estimated cost for the washington D.C. event ranges from $25 million to $45
million, possibly increasing as the Army commits to covering any street repairs necessitated by the parade.
This figure excludes cleanup and police service expenses, according to The New York Times.
The parade plans have drawn criticism, particularly in light of proposed budget cuts to public services like
education, health, and disaster relief. Sen. Jack Reed, a Rhode Island Democrat, suggested a smaller-scale
celebration at Fort Myer in Arlington, Va.,featuring the 3rd Infantry Regiment.

The parade will proceed along Constitution Avenue, passing by a viewing platform for Trump. The marching troops
will be housed in government buildings, using cots and sleeping bags.
Army spokesperson Steve Warren acknowledged the high cost but emphasized the importance of commemorating 250
years of service. “But I think that amount of money is dwarfed by 250 years of service and sacrifice by
america’s Army,” Warren told The Times.
the Army’s parachute team, the Golden Knights, will also participate, presenting the president with a flag.
Trump’s interest in a military parade reportedly stemmed from watching the Bastille Day parade in Paris in
2017.
What’s next
Following the parade, the Army will assess any damage to city streets and begin necessary repairs. Discussions
regarding the allocation of resources between military displays and public services are expected to continue.
