The Butler and the Bigot: Unmasking the World Around Donald Trump
From Mar-a-Lago Charm to Online Extremism
Anthony Senecal, for years a fixture at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, initially presented a carefully cultivated image of quiet loyalty. A 2016 New York Times profile painted him as a quintessential, almost stereotypical, household servant – a blend of the attentive butler and a Florida retiree enjoying early-bird specials. But this carefully constructed facade crumbled with the discovery of deeply disturbing online posts, revealing a man harboring virulent racism and extremist views.
Senecal’s Facebook posts, uncovered by Mother Jones in May 2016, were far from benign. He called for the execution of then-President Barack Obama, labeling him a “pus headed ‘president'” and a “kenyan (sic) fraud” who should be “hung for treason.” he also expressed violent sentiments towards Muslims, suggesting thay be “shot at the shore” to prevent immigration.
Doubling Down on Hate
When confronted about his inflammatory posts by NBC News’ Alexandra Jaffe, Senecal did not attempt to offer excuses or disclaimers.
