Trump’s Stunning Upset: How America’s New President Will Shake Up Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Future
Donald Trump is the 47th president of the United States. Will his victory change American policy towards Bosnia and Herzegovina? Are changes starting in the Balkans? What does Trump’s victory mean for the world?? What will be the US policy in Ukraine, in the Middle East and what will change in American-Chinese relations? We got the answers to these questions at the Polis show by BiH. diplomat Mirza Hajrić, analyst Srećka Latala, professor of international relations Adis Maksić, Al Jazeera journalist Ivica Puljić and Amra Alirejsović from Voice of America.
Former President Donald Trump won the US presidential election this week. Colleague Alirejsović, do you know what will be the focus of Trump’s foreign policy?
“The relations between the United States and China could probably be a key foreign policy focus. Trump imposed a series of tariffs on Chinese imports amid a trade war with China during his previous administration. Some analysts believe China is less likely to take an aggressive stance now than it would have if Kamala Harris had won“, said Amra Alirejsović.
Mr Puljić, what are the reactions in the USA after Trump’s victory?
“Some are happy, some are sad, there are people who are very scared, which has never happened before. If Trump achieves the 10 percent he said he would, this country is not well written. He is preparing his new cabinet, personnel changes, talking to other leaders, first with Netanyahu and Zelenski, which most likely means he will focus on peace plans. Richard Grenell is now in the running for three positions, one for CIA director, one for secretary of state, and one for the incoming president’s chief of staff, three positions that he can and will whisper to Trump . Grenell Richard received a medal from Aleksandar Vučić in 2023, Belgrade is his second home. Jared Kushner knows Aleksandar VučićPuljic said.
“By all means, it does not mean good, that is, it means that we will need to fight more vigorously in order to neutralize aspects that do not sound good at first. If we are talking about changing the borders in the region, of course we in BiH should prepare for such an approach which is not suitable for us anyway.“, said Hajrić.
Trump said he will end the war in Gaza?
“When we talk about Israel and Palestine, there is a reason why the vast majority of Israelis, especially those who are farthest to the right, were so happy for the arrival of Trump. Trump has a relationship with Benjamin Netanyahu, who Joe Biden described as pro-Palestinian during the campaign. We have to distinguish between what the campaign says and what it does. In his campaign, he uses binary oppositions, they have specific parts of American society that helped him get to this position. I don’t see much hope for the Palestinians with the arrival of Trump, I think it is realistic to expect the situation to be worseMaksic said.
