Trump’s Tariff Takedown: 56% of US Voters Back His Bold Trade Pledge, Including a Surprising 1 in 3 Democrats
Majority of American Voters Support Trump’s Tariff Pledge
A recent poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos revealed that 56% of American voters support former President Trump’s tariff pledge. The proposal involves imposing a 10% tariff on all imports and a 60% tariff on Chinese goods.
According to the poll, only 41% of voters opposed the proposal, indicating a significant divide in public opinion. Notably, among Democratic voters, one-third expressed support for tariffs, while two-thirds held a negative view.
Former President Trump has long advocated for tariffs, claiming that other countries are taking advantage of the United States. His stance on tariffs has been a contentious issue, with some arguing that it would lead to increased costs for American consumers.
Despite this, the poll found that voters rated Trump as a better fit for various areas of the economy. Forty-three percent of voters believed that Trump would be more effective in lowering the prices of everyday items like groceries and gas, compared to 36% who chose Vice President Harris.
Additionally, 37% of voters thought that Trump would focus more on reducing the national debt, while 30% chose Harris. These findings suggest that Trump’s economic policies, including his tariff pledge, resonate with a significant portion of the American electorate.
