TSMC Investigates 35 Fake Doctors in Hyderabad for Unqualified Medical Advice on Social Media

November 29, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Health

Investigation of Hyderabad for Fraudulent Piles Treatment”>Fake Doctors in Hyderabad

The Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) is investigating 35 individuals posing as doctors on social media. These individuals claim to offer treatments for obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and infertility. Some have large followings, ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 people.

Claims of Expertise

Many of these self-proclaimed health experts work in small hospitals or appear in videos. They advocate for treatments like diabetes reversal and detoxification of the pancreas while wearing stethoscopes. However, they lack real medical qualifications. In a previous case, one person pretended to be an ICU specialist without any medical degree.

Unqualified Recommendations

Among the suspects, some recommend drugs and health supplements for various health issues. One notable individual, with over 300,000 followers, claims to be a specialist in cosmetic and personal care despite having a background in hospitality. This person has been known to issue prescriptions for obesity, skin issues, and sexual health conditions.

Live Sessions and Risks

Dr. Naresh Kumar, a member of TSMC’s anti-quackery team, highlighted that some impostors host live sessions, misleading audiences about treatments without proper qualifications. One such case led to a hospital terminating the individual involved.

Legal Framework

Only qualified MBBS doctors or certified nutritionists are legally allowed to provide medical or nutritional advice. Dr. G. Srinivas, Chairman of TSMC, stated that untrained individuals offering health advice or posing as doctors are committing impersonation and are subject to punishment.

Clinic Raids

TSMC officials also discovered significant violations during recent investigations, including unqualified professionals prescribing infertility treatments and medications for pediatric patients. Consequently, they raided 20 clinics operated by unqualified individuals and are filing ten FIRs under the NMC Act in Gajwel.
