Tsunoda Slams Stroll: ‘Unnecessary Move’ Sparks F1 Controversy in Azerbaijan
Yuki Tsunoda Reflects on Disappointing Azerbaijan GP
Yuki Tsunoda, driving for Red Bull, retired from the final race of the 2024 F1 Azerbaijan GP and reflected on his collision with Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) on the opening lap.
Tsunoda, who started from 11th on the grid on medium tyres, collided with Stroll on the first lap. The race continued, but a hole in the right side fairing forced him to stop the car and retire on lap 15.
“This has happened for two races in a row and it’s very frustrating,” commented Yuki Tsunoda. “It was a very short race and we lost the chance to score points. Scoring points is still difficult, but you never know what can happen in a road race.”
“Starting 12th is obviously not ideal and means there is a big risk of damage. We need to step up and try to qualify in the top 10 and get a better start.”
Regarding the incident with Stroll, Tsunoda stated, “His movement seemed unnecessary. He was running like he had nothing to lose, I don’t know if he did, but I wasn’t going to make it easy for him.”
“It was a disappointing result. It’s not how I wanted the race to end. But I’ll come back strong in Singapore.”
