Tsunoda Sounds Alarm: New Floor Balance Falls Short of Expectations
RB F1 Team Evaluates New Floor Performance at 2024 F1 Azerbaijan GP
Alan Permain, Racing Director of Visa Cash Up RB, reviewed the team’s progress during the first day of free practice for the 2024 F1 Azerbaijan GP.
RB introduced the new floor to Yuki Tsunoda at the previous race in Monza. This weekend in Baku, teammate Daniel Ricciardo was also equipped with the updated version, and data was collected on both cars on day one.
Yuki Tsunoda struggled with a lack of grip in FP1 and finished 15th, but improved his pace in FP2 to 11th. Teammate Daniel Ricciardo, on the other hand, started FP1 well in 10th, but slipped to 16th in FP2.
“It was a decent day for us, but we still have a lot of pace to find,” Permain said. “Neither driver was completely satisfied because the car was not perfectly balanced.”
“We did a comparison where Daniel used the latest spec in FP1 and both cars used that spec in FP2. We will continue to analyze the data tonight.”
“The first impression is that it is a good step in the right direction. As always on this street circuit, the track evolves during the day and we need to adjust the balance to accommodate this improvement.”
“We will carefully monitor the downforce levels tonight and may make changes for FP3 and qualifying.”
