Registration is now open for the 10th annual Tunnel to Towers Foundation Tower Climb NYC, scheduled for , at One World Trade Center. The event, which challenges participants to ascend the 104 floors and 2,226 steps of the iconic skyscraper, aims to honor the lives lost and the first responders who served during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.
The climb is a significant fundraising event for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a non-profit organization established in the wake of 9/11. The foundation’s mission extends beyond remembrance, focusing on providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and the families of fallen first responders with young children, as well as building custom “smart homes” for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. To date, the organization has delivered over 1,700 mortgage-free homes and committed over $1 billion to its programs.
This year’s climb holds particular resonance as it aims to deliver 343 mortgage-free homes to America’s heroes, a symbolic number representing the 343 members of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) who perished on September 11th. The event is not merely a physical challenge, according to Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. “The Tunnel to Towers Tower Climb is more than just a physical challenge. It is a powerful act of remembrance,” Siller stated. “Holding the 10th Climb in 2026, just months ahead of the 25th anniversary of September 11th, reminds us that while time has passed, America’s promise to ‘Never Forget’ remains stronger than ever.”
The Tower Climb also supports the Captain Billy Burke Jr. Foundation, which provides tuition assistance at SUNY Potsdam, Captain Burke’s alma mater, for the children of New York City firefighters. Captain Burke was among those lost on 9/11.
The event is expected to draw 1,250 climbers. Participants will navigate the building’s interior, ascending from the basement to the 102nd floor, mirroring the arduous journey undertaken by first responders on 9/11. The foundation is actively encouraging participation and support through donations, suggesting a monthly contribution of $11 to amplify the impact of their programs.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s broader commemoration of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 is described as its most comprehensive to date, encompassing efforts to honor the past, support those currently in need, and educate future generations about the events of that day. The foundation’s work extends beyond home delivery, addressing veteran homelessness and advocating for the enduring remembrance of September 11th.
