Turkish Eyes on America: Election Board to Send Observers to US Polls
Observing Democracy in Action: Turkey’s High Election Board Visits the US
Turkey’s High Election Board (YSK) has embarked on a significant mission to observe the US elections, set to conclude on November 5. This visit underscores the importance of international cooperation and the sharing of best practices in electoral processes.
Leading the delegation is Ahmet Yener, chairman of the YSK, accompanied by fellow board member Ali Ürker. Their primary objective is to observe the presidential election, gaining valuable insights into the American electoral system.
During their visit, the YSK delegation engaged in a productive meeting with the Federal Electoral Commission. This encounter facilitated a comprehensive exchange of ideas and experiences, enabling both parties to learn from each other’s approaches to electoral management.
The delegation will also visit other organizations integral to the electoral process, broadening their understanding of the US electoral framework. By witnessing the entire electoral process firsthand, including polling day, the YSK aims to enhance its own capabilities and contribute to the improvement of Turkey’s electoral system.
This visit comes at a time when the YSK has faced criticism from opposition parties in Turkey, particularly regarding its decision to validate unstamped votes in the 2017 constitutional referendum. Through this observation mission, the YSK demonstrates its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the pursuit of electoral excellence.
