The search for a new head coach for the Norwegian men’s national handball team has been narrowed to four final candidates, according to reporting from TV 2 and VG.
The shortlist consists of two Norwegian candidates and two international coaches from Sweden and Denmark. This selection process follows the conclusion of Jonas Wille’s tenure as the national team coach.
Wille is scheduled to lead the team for the final time during the World Cup qualification matches against Turkey, which will take place on May 14 and May 17, 2026.
Among the international candidates is 59-year-old Magnus Andersson from Sweden. Andersson currently serves as the coach of Porto and brings significant experience to the shortlist, having won both the European Championship and the World Championship during his 307 matches with the Swedish national team. His professional history also includes a tenure as the national team coach for Austria and a season playing for Viking in Stavanger.
The second international candidate is 49-year-old Stefan Madsen of Denmark. Madsen is currently the coach for Paris Saint-Germain and previously led Aalborg to two Champions League finals.
The Norwegian candidates include 45-year-old Kristian Kjelling and 47-year-old Børge Lund. Kjelling has led Drammen to a playoff final during the current season, while Lund has an extensive history as the coach of Elverum and previously served as an assistant to Christian Berge on the national team.
Bent Svele, a handball expert for TV 2, has provided assessments of the international options. Regarding Magnus Andersson, Svele described him as a proper handball head and an exciting alternative with a lot of experience

The decision on which of these four candidates will succeed Jonas Wille will determine the leadership of the national team as it moves beyond the current World Cup qualification window.
