TVB’s investigative current affairs program Scoop (東張西望) drew massive attention following a tense confrontation between host Leung Man-kui and a male fraud suspect who allegedly posed as a wealthy executive, according to multiple Hong Kong media reports.
Romance Scam Drains Victim’s Savings
According to reports from Sing Tao Headline and HK01, the program investigated a case where a middle-aged woman lost HK$50,000 and suffered emotional distress after falling victim to a romance scam.
Sing Tao Headline reported that the victim harbored hopes of marrying into wealth before discovering she had been deceived. The suspect allegedly lured the woman under the false premise that having a child together would secure a luxury villa, only for the victim to find her bank account drained to a mere HK$20.
Flashy Suits and Verbal Abuse
The male suspect, identified in reports by the alias "Mr. Kwok" (郭總), allegedly dressed in flashy suits that drew visual comparisons to veteran actor Bowie Wu’s iconic television character Andrew Tuen (安德尊), prompting host Leung Man-kui to struggle to maintain her composure during production.
As the investigation unfolded on air, the suspect reportedly hurled insults at the victim during phone interactions, calling her derogatory names while attempting to defend his actions.
Heated Confrontation on Air
According to Oriental Daily and Orange News coverage, host Leung Man-kui confronted the suspect directly, firing off a series of pointed questions regarding the alleged financial manipulation and verbal abuse.
Surreal Contrast Sparks Public Debate
Production elements of the broadcast also caught viewer attention. HK01 noted that Leung broke into laughter during the setup of the segment due to the suspect’s distinctive bright suit styling, which closely mirrored the appearance of the television personality commonly known as "Andrew Tuen." The stark contrast between the comedic visual resemblance and the serious financial harm suffered by the victim highlighted the surreal nature of the con artist’s tactics.
