The SC-UF25 Ultra-Low Temperature Portable Freezer has been introduced by TWINBIRD Corporation as a 25-litre, compact unit designed to achieve cooling down to −86°C. Scheduled for release in November 2026, the device expands the manufacturer’s lineup of cold-chain solutions driven by Free-Piston Stirling Cooler technology. As life-science sectors such as regenerative medicine, cell therapy, and drug discovery progress, reliable ultra-low temperature management for research samples has grown increasingly crucial.
Reaching Minus Eighty-Six Degrees Without Dry Ice
While storage technologies have evolved, transport and temporary storage often rely on dry ice, creating challenges for temperature stability, operational efficiency, and environmental impact. To address these hurdles, TWINBIRD Corporation developed the SC-UF25 using its Free-Piston Stirling Cooler technology, which employs helium gas as a refrigerant. The portable freezer achieves extreme cold while remaining compact and lightweight. It supports standard alternating current power input of 100 to 240 volts at 50 or 60 hertz, enabling flexible use for stationary storage as well as transport within research facilities and between separate locations.
Engineering Precision in Tsubame-Sanjo
Key features of the unit include precise temperature control ranging from −86°C to −20°C in 1°C increments, alongside a low-vibration profile suited for laboratories where installation space is severely limited. Built with high-precision parts crafted in Japan’s famous Tsubame-Sanjo district, the product leverages sophisticated technical skills honed over many years of production mastery. Through its capability to maintain and move items at −86°C, this portable unit minimizes the need for dry ice and enhances both the reliability and effectiveness of ultra-low temperature cold-chain procedures.
Exhibition at MEDICA Two Thousand Twenty-Six
The upcoming device will be presented by TWINBIRD at MEDICA 2026—recognized as a premier global trade show for the medical and life-science industries—taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany, between 16 and 19 November 2026. At the exhibition, the company will highlight the product’s contribution to sustainable cold-chain applications for research, laboratory, and life-science use. TWINBIRD noted that the device is strictly for research, laboratory, and life-science cold-chain use only. It is not registered under the European Union Medical Device Regulation and is not intended for diagnosis, treatment, clinical decisions, or patient care.
