The Minnesota Twins made roster moves Sunday, placing right-hander Zebby Matthews on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain. The move for Matthews, a starting pitcher, is retroactive to Thursday.
To bolster their bullpen, the Twins activated left-hander Danny Coulombe from his rehab assignment. Coulombe,recovering from a forearm injury,will be available for Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Matthews, 25, has a 1-1 record with a 5.21 ERA in four starts for Minnesota this season after being called up on May 18. In 13 career appearances with the twins, all starts, he is 2-5 with a 6.19 ERA.
Coulombe, 35, pitched a scoreless inning for Triple-A St. Paul on Friday during his rehab assignment. Before landing on the injured list May 18, Coulombe had pitched 16 2/3 scoreless innings over 19 relief appearances this season, becoming a key relief pitcher for the Twins. His return provides a boost to the team’s Twins pitching depth.
