The Bogotá Metropolitan Police dismantled a criminal organization known as Los del Carro Rojo
(The Red Car Gang), which was responsible for a series of violent vehicle thefts across the Colombian capital. The operation resulted in the capture of seven suspects and the recovery of multiple vehicles used in the commission of these crimes.
The group consisted of seven young men, including five Colombian nationals and two foreigners. Their arrest followed a 40-day investigation conducted by the police to identify the individuals behind a wave of robberies carried out in various localities of the city.
Police Operation and Arrests
The police operation was triggered after the suspects stole a high-end SUV during the early morning hours in the Teusaquillo sector. Law enforcement officials utilized security cameras to track the movement of the suspects, which eventually led patrols to a commercial establishment located at the intersection of Avenida 1° de Mayo and Carrera 30.
The suspects were intercepted in flagrante delicto. During the procedure, authorities recovered the stolen high-end SUV, one motorcycle, and two red vehicles that the gang used to carry out their robberies.
According to the Bogotá Police, the gang employed a specific strategy to avoid detection and hinder law enforcement efforts. The criminals typically abandoned the stolen vehicles in public parking lots or on public roads to prevent the authorities from tracing the cars back to the perpetrators.
North Bogotá Assault
Among the crimes attributed to the group was a violent assault on a family at the intersection of Calle 127 and Autopista Norte in the north of Bogotá. In this specific incident, the perpetrators used a red Mazda to carry out the robbery.

Following the operation, one of the men captured with the red Mazda used in the North Bogotá attack had his capture legalized by the judicial authorities.
Judicial Status and Systemic Concerns
The legal process for the suspects moved quickly following the November 25, 2025, arrests. By November 28, 2025, seven suspected thieves from the gang were sent to prison.
The arrests and the subsequent investigation sparked a broader discussion regarding the city’s legal framework. The Secretary of Security stated that the captures related to these robberies exposed failures within the judicial system.
