Two fallen law enforcement officers from the Baton Rouge area will be posthumously honored tonight at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., as part of the annual “Roll Call of Heroes” during National Police Week.
The officers being recognized are Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Caleb Eisworth and Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Riley, whose names will be engraved alongside 362 others at the memorial. Eisworth died on August 10, 2025, after being intentionally struck while riding his police motorcycle, while Riley was killed on October 6, 2025, during a confrontation with a rape suspect who seized a deputy’s firearm and opened fire in the Iberville Courthouse.
The ceremony, set for 8 p.m. Eastern Time, will include a candlelight vigil and is expected to draw an estimated 30,000 attendees. Among them is Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi, whose son, Captain Brett Stassi Jr., was also injured during the shooting that claimed Riley’s life. Stassi Jr. Has since recovered from his injuries.
This year’s memorial adds 363 names to the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, including 109 officers who died in 2025 and 254 from previous years. The total number of names now displayed at the memorial stands at 24,775, honoring officers from across the United States.
The event holds particular significance for the families and communities of Eisworth and Riley, as well as for law enforcement agencies in Louisiana, where six officers were added to the memorial this year.
