Chisinau,Moldova – Two cases of measles have been reported in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau,prompting health officials to urge residents to get vaccinated.
Vladimir Bolocan, deputy head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance (DAMS), announced the cases, emphasizing the seriousness of the highly contagious disease.
“Measles is a dangerous infection, and we already have two confirmed cases,” Bolocan said. He also noted reports of suspected measles cases and urged vigilance.Bolocan stressed the importance of vaccination, highlighting the availability of a single vaccine that protects against measles, rubella, and mumps.”These are three serious diseases that, unluckily, have no specific treatment,” he explained.
The DAMS is also reporting an increase in respiratory infections and gastrointestinal illnesses caused by viruses. Last week, Chisinau’s emergency units saw over 3,100 patients, with 1,696 requiring hospitalization. notably, the hospitalization rate for children under five reached 100%, with all presenting cases of acute respiratory infections progressing to pneumonia.
“These infections are progressing aggressively,” Bolocan warned.
In addition to the measles and respiratory concerns, authorities are continuing to see cases of mushroom poisoning.Residents are advised to purchase mushrooms only from authorized vendors with certificates from the National Food Safety Agency.
