LITTLETON,Tipperary – A devastating house fire in the early hours of Monday morning claimed the lives of two beloved members of the Littleton community. Stephen Lee, in his 80s, and his son John, in his 50s, were tragically killed in the blaze that erupted around 2:30 a.m.
The tight-knit community is reeling from the loss, with local Councillor Sean Ryan describing the incident as “beyond comprehension.”
“There is just complete and utter devastation,” Ryan told RTÉ radio’s Morning Ireland. ”This tragedy happened in our village. There is a sense of absolute disbelief in the locality.”
Ryan praised the efforts of emergency services and neighbors who rushed to help, emphasizing the community’s commitment to supporting the grieving family in the challenging days ahead.
“All we can do is be there for the family, rally around them, and give them every support that we can,” he said.
Parish priest fr.Tom Fogarty remembered Stephen Lee as a kind and gentle soul.
“Everybody knew him, his gentle smile and deep sincerity endeared him to everybody,” Fr. fogarty said. “He was just a lovely gentleman.”
he recalled seeing Stephen just a day before the fire, visiting his wife’s grave, a testament to his devotion and love for his family.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
