Two Saudi officials were killed in an attack in Yemen
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Saturday that two Saudi officials were killed and another wounded in an attack carried out by an element linked to the Yemeni Ministry of Defense in the Yemeni city of Sayun.
quote Official Saudi Press Agency Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki, a spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition forces, said: “An officer and a non-commissioned officer were killed and an officer was wounded in a treacherous and cowardly attack inside the camp of the forces. City of Zion.”
Al-Maliki added, “The coalition forces will work in coordination with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense to find out the cause and motive, arrest the perpetrator and follow the investigative procedures to bring him to justice.”
Saudi Arabia previously intervened, heading a military coalition, for seven years to fight the Houthis and support the legitimate government, starting in 2015, when, in 2014, the Iran-backed group took control of large swathes of territory in the north. All over the country including the capital Sana’a.
Since then, nearly 370,000 people have died in Yemen due to war and famine, according to the US agency.
A UN-brokered ceasefire agreement, which came into force in April 2022, has markedly reduced hostilities. A ceasefire ended in October last year, but fighting has largely stalled.
