Tragedy Strikes Bali’s Monkey Forest as Falling Tree Kills Two Tourists
Ubud, Bali – A day of sightseeing turned deadly at Bali’s popular Monkey Forest tourist attraction on Tuesday when a falling tree claimed the lives of two foreign visitors.
The victims, identified as 32-year-old Funny Justine Christine from France and 42-year-old Kim Hyoeun from South Korea, were struck by the tree around 12:25 p.m. local time. A third person sustained injuries in the incident and received treatment at the Monkey Forest Ubud clinic.
“Two people have died and one has been injured,” confirmed Adjunct Commissioner Gananta, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Gianyar Police.
The tragic incident has prompted authorities to temporarily close the Monkey Forest while they investigate the cause of the tree fall. Police, assisted by the Gianyar Regional Disaster Mitigation agency (BPBD), are working to clear the scene.
The bodies of the deceased tourists were transported to Kenak Medikal Ubud Hospital.
This devastating event comes amidst warnings from the Bali Police about the dangers posed by Bali’s current whether conditions. Senior Commissioner Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, Head of Public Relations for the Bali Police, urged residents and tourists to exercise caution and vigilance due to heavy rains and strong winds.
“It is better to avoid traveling during rain or find a safe place to take shelter,” Panjaitan advised. “People should be vigilant and careful.”
The Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued alerts for potential hydrometeorological disasters in several areas of Bali, including Badung and Tabanan districts, due to the ongoing rainy season.
