Typhoon Yagi: Vietnamese Citizens in Hong Kong and Macau Warned to Take Precautions
The Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau has issued a warning to Vietnamese citizens about the impending arrival of super typhoon Yagi, expected to impact the region starting from September 5, 2024.
The weather forecasting agency has issued a warning about the potential impact of Typhoon Yagi on Hong Kong and Macau, with the storm expected to reach its strongest level on the typhoon scale, causing strong winds and high waves in the affected areas.
The Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong recommends that Vietnamese citizens in Hong Kong and Macau remain calm, avoid the storm in safe places, keep in touch with relatives, closely monitor weather reports, and comply with the instructions and regulations of local authorities on storm prevention.
Typhoon Yagi Forecast and Preparations
The Hong Kong Observatory expects the typhoon warning level 3, on a scale of 5, to remain in place until at least noon on September 5, as Typhoon Yagi approaches the special administrative region. If the typhoon moves in the current forecast direction and continues to strengthen, local winds are expected to increase further on September 5.
Typhoon Yagi, the 11th typhoon of the year according to the China Meteorological Administration, is forecast to cause landslides along coastal areas from Hainan’s Wanning to Guangdong’s Dianbai on September 6.
Emergency Response and Precautions
China’s Ministry of Water Resources has activated a level IV emergency response to flooding in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, and Yunnan provinces following Typhoon Yagi. Two working groups have been dispatched to Hainan and Guangdong to guide rainstorm and flood prevention and mitigation work.
