After Storm Capricorn made landfall in northern Vietnam, at least 4 people died, 78 were injured, and more than 10 people were missing.
The Indo-Pacific Tropical Cyclone Warning Center said that Capricorn hit Hai Phong and Quang Ninh provinces in northern Vietnam yesterday with wind speeds of more than 200 kilometers per hour, bringing more than 200 millimeters of rain to the two places. Strong winds and blown debris damaged buildings and vehicles. A large number of trees fell down in Hanoi, the capital, crushing power lines and causing power outages in many places.
Vietnamese media reported that three people died in Quang Ninh Province, one person died in Hai Duong Province near Hanoi, and many fishermen were missing at sea.
Four airports in the north were suspended for most of yesterday. Nearly 50,000 people were evacuated from coastal towns in Vietnam. The authorities asked people to stay indoors. Schools in 12 northern provinces, including Hanoi, were closed.
