Typhoon Kraton Unleashed: Will the Korean Peninsula Weather the Storm on Stepping Stone Holiday
Typhoon No. 18 ’Kraton’ Expected to Strengthen and Head North
Typhoon No. 18 ‘Kraton’ has formed in the distant South Sea and is expected to gradually develop stronger and head north.
Typhoon’s Path and Intensity
The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that Typhoon No. 18 ‘Kraton’ would develop into a strong typhoon and head north to the sea near Taiwan in early October, during the Stepping Stones holiday.
Afterwards, around the National Foundation Day holiday, it is expected to turn northeast and head toward the Korean Peninsula.
Currently, Korea, the United States, and Japan are all predicting similar typhoon paths.
Flexible Typhoon Path
The expected path of the typhoon is flexible, but models for each figure are simulating a northward move toward the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula or the Korea Strait in the second half of the week leading up to the weekend after National Foundation Day.
However, the Korea Meteorological Administration stated that the typhoon’s path and intensity after the currently announced path are very flexible depending on the barometer and sea surface temperature around the Korean Peninsula.
“The typhoon’s path is expected to be affected by the barometer and sea surface temperature around the Korean Peninsula. We recommend checking the latest typhoon information for updates.” – Hwang Ji-young, Korea Meteorological Administration
Preparations and Updates
The Korea Meteorological Administration plans to provide detailed information on the path and intensity of Typhoon No. 18 and the extent of its impact on the Korean Peninsula through frequent briefings on Sunday morning.
Stay tuned for updates on the typhoon’s path and intensity.
