Typhoon Terror: Makar Brings Chaos to Hong Kong Airport, Grounds 38 Flights
Typhoon Makar: Flight Disruptions and Airport Preparations
Typhoon Makar has caused significant disruptions to flights in the region, with 38 flights canceled today. The Hong Kong airport authorities have activated a passenger concern group to assist stranded passengers.
According to Fong Ruiwen, deputy director of airport operations, flights are still operating normally, but the airport is preparing for the worst. As the typhoon approaches, the airport will start a flight reallocation process tomorrow morning.
The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a storm signal No. 8, which is expected to take effect at 6:20 p.m. As a result, most ground transportation connecting the airport will be canceled, with only individual bus routes maintaining limited service and airport rail services.
To assist stranded passengers, the airport will set up temporary rest areas, and restaurants and people-moving systems will be activated. The passenger concern group will provide services and assistance to travelers, advising them on the best course of action.
The Hong Kong government has announced that all evening schools will be closed today, and all day schools will be closed tomorrow. Under typhoon number 8, work and classes will be suspended in Hong Kong.
