Typhoon Wangi Updates

On November 16, 2024, Typhoon Wangi intensified into a strong typhoon. The Central Meteorological Administration reported its current position as 1,350 kilometers southeast of Iluanbi, moving northwest to west. While Typhoon Wangi will not directly impact Taiwan, it is expected to have indirect effects on November 18 and 19.

The meteorological agency noted that the northeast monsoon will strengthen over the next day. This change will lead to a drop in temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan. There may also be localized heavy rainfall in areas like Keelung’s north coast, Yilan, and the mountainous regions of Greater Taipei. Short-lived rains are possible in Hsinchu and parts north of Hualien.

On November 18 and 19, as Wangi enters the South China Sea, its peripheral clouds will bring moisture, resulting in short showers in northern and eastern areas, particularly in Taoyuan, Keelung, Yilan, and Greater Taipei. Scattered rainfall may occur in other parts of the island.

From November 20 to 22, Wangi will weaken and shift away from Taiwan. However, the northeast monsoon will continue to cause localized rain in northern areas and the eastern Huadong region, particularly in the central and southern mountains.
