The Knicks now face a must-win situation in Game 5 at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.
Indiana’s uptempo offense was the key to their success. The Pacers posted an impressive 126.2 offensive rating,a meaningful jump from their already strong regular-season performance. The Knicks struggled to contain Indiana’s fast-paced attack, particularly in the first quarter when the Pacers achieved a 159.3 offensive rating.
New York adjusted their lineup, starting with two big men, but the change proved ineffective against the Pacers’ speed. While a bench-led comeback briefly tied the game, the Knicks couldn’t sustain the momentum. Coach Tom thibodeau reverted to his original starting lineup in the fourth quarter, but the Knicks ultimately couldn’t close the gap.
Jalen Brunson scored 31 points for the Knicks, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 24, and OG Anunoby contributed 22. Towns appeared to injure his knee late in the game, but he said he expects to play in Game 5.
“I’ve never known this team to quit,” Hart said.”That’s not the character of the guys we have in the locker room.”
Pascal Siakam added 30 points for the Pacers, and Aaron Nesmith scored 16. Siakam praised Haliburton’s performance, highlighting his energy and impact on the game.
What’s next
To stay alive in the series, the Knicks must find a way to slow down the Pacers’ tempo and provide consistent support for Brunson and Towns. The Knicks need to focus on defensive transition and offensive continuity to have a chance at winning three consecutive games.
