tZERO Group, Inc. and Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE: ICE) announced agreements on August 31, 2026, to build infrastructure for public tokenized securities markets. According to the joint announcements from tZERO and Intercontinental Exchange, the partnership features a Memorandum of Understanding establishing tZERO as a premier design partner for digital transfer agent and broker-dealer infrastructure on ICE’s upcoming NYSE-affiliated Digital Trading Platform.

ICE Investment and Blockchain Patent Licensing

As part of the financing round, Intercontinental Exchange agreed to make an investment in tZERO and secure a license to tZERO’s blockchain patent portfolio. According to the companies, that portfolio encompasses 23 patent families and 103 patents. These assets underpin core elements of the security token lifecycle, including compliance-aware transfer logic, upgradeable smart contract frameworks, scalable corporate-action handling, and broker-dealer-level identity interoperability. tZERO’s experience in regulated on-chain infrastructure makes them a valuable partner as we expand our upcoming digital transfer agent program in support of tokenized securities trading and settlement, said Michael Blaugrund, VP, Strategic Initiatives, ICE, in the source announcements.

Digital Transfer Agent Standards and Platform Integration

Under the Memorandum of Understanding, Intercontinental Exchange plans to consult with tZERO to establish standards for digital transfer agents, tokenization agents, and broker-dealer subscribers operating on the Digital Trading Platform. Subject to regulatory, technology, and operational requirements, tZERO is slated to become an approved digital transfer agent and subscriber on the platform. We have spent years building an end-to-end regulated platform for tokenized securities and related IP, said Alan Konevsky, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of tZERO, according to company releases. Partnering with ICE to expand our breadth and reach to public equities is a natural step forward for our infrastructure-as-a-service offering and more broadly for tokenized markets.

Collateral Management Evaluation

Beyond the Digital Trading Platform integration, the collaborating firms will evaluate using tZERO tokenized assets for collateral management purposes across Intercontinental Exchange clearing houses and other affiliates. The initiative connects tZERO’s regulated on-chain infrastructure directly with ICE’s global capital markets technology and data network.
