Dipen Parekh Named UHealth CEO,prioritizes Patient Access and AI

Dipen Parekh,MD,took over as CEO of the University of Miami Health System on June 2,with a commitment to prioritizing patient well-being. Parekh, also the director of the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, aims to enhance patient safety, satisfaction, and provider productivity.
Parekh, who previously served as COO since 2020, succeeds Joseph Echevarria, who remains president. Parekh credits Echevarria’s leadership for UHealth’s progress in patient care.
A key focus for Parekh is improving access to care across the tri-county region.UHealth is expanding through satellite locations to bring advanced care closer to patients. The health system is also increasing its use of artificial intelligence to improve patient outcomes,streamline efficiencies,and optimize access.
Parekh joined uhealth in 2012 and established the desai Sethi urology Institute, now a top NIH-funded program. He also served as chief clinical officer from 2017 to 2020. As a practicing surgeon, Parekh has performed over 6,000 robotic surgeries for urologic cancers.
“I’m so proud that this is a physician-led, physician-driven health system,” Parekh said. “That means a lot, as the primary goal of all physicians is the desire for the best outcomes for their patients.”
Parekh believes financial success stems from high-quality clinical outcomes. He continues to practice as a surgeon, emphasizing the importance of providing care to underserved communities.
