U.S. Open Unveils $800M Renovation Plan for Enhanced Fan Experience

The U.S. Open is set for a major upgrade with an $800 million renovation plan targeting Arthur Ashe Stadium and the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Dubbed ”Reimagining Impressive,” the self-funded project aims to modernize the facilities and improve the overall experience for fans and players alike.
The enterprising project, expected to be completed by 2027, represents the largest investment in the U.S. Open’s history. united States Tennis Association chief executive Lew Sherr said the renovation will maintain Arthur Ashe Stadium as “the greatest stage in tennis” for the next 25 years.
The renovations will touch every aspect of the venue, from seating and concourses to restrooms and food vendors. Premium hospitality and courtside experiences will also be enhanced. The Player Performance Center will receive $250 million for locker rooms, fitness facilities, and dining areas.
Arthur Ashe Stadium, built in 1997, will see its capacity slightly reduced to allow for larger concourses and more amenities. A new level, “Mezz 2,” will be added, and the number of courtside seats will increase from 3,000 to 5,000.
“We are enhancing and modernizing every aspect of Arthur Ashe Stadium and the venue,” Sherr said. “From seating to concourses to restrooms to points of sale, also including premium hospitality and courtside experiences.”
Brian Vahaly,USTA president,emphasized the importance of the U.S. Open to the sport’s growth strategy.He noted the increase in tennis participation, with the USTA exceeding 26 million players in the first quarter of 2025, a 49% increase over six years.
Sherr also highlighted the economic benefits for New York City. The U.S. Open already delivers more than $1.2 billion in economic impact, surpassing the Yankees and Mets combined, a number expected to increase with the renovations. The USTA’s financial report indicated that the U.S. Open generated nearly $560 million in operating revenue last year.
