U.S. Provides $500,000 to Support Tanzania’s Marburg Virus Outbreak Preparedness
The United States has pledged $500,000 in immediate aid to strengthen Tanzania‘s efforts to prevent and manage potential outbreaks of the Marburg Virus Disease (MVD). U.S. Ambassador Michael Battle emphasized the importance of quick actions to prepare Tanzania for any cases that might enter the country.
This funding, managed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will enhance health systems in Tanzania. The support includes strengthening laboratories for safe testing, training healthcare workers to identify and care for patients, and raising community awareness about Marburg and its prevention.
Additionally, the funds will prepare Emergency Operations Centers and conduct simulations to ensure a rapid response to any identified cases. The United States is committed to partnering with Tanzania to improve outbreak readiness and protect the health of all Tanzanians.
