Bono Teases New U2 album, Reveals Band’s Creative Role

U2 is gearing up for a new album, and frontman Bono says the band has a wealth of material to choose from. In a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music,Bono discussed the band’s preparations and the abundance of new music they’ve created.
Hints of new material have circulated for years. Last month, Bono told Jimmy Kimmel Live that the writing process involved overcoming past challenges to discover “the sound of the future.”
At the Cannes Film Festival, bono confirmed the band’s recording sessions, stating, “it sounds like future to me.We had to go through some stuff,and we’re at the othre end of it.”
Bono told Lowe that Edge has generated numerous tracks, with 25 considered “great.” The band is now in the process of selecting the best for the final project. “Edge said ther’s 300 songs, and I’m like ‘they’re not songs, Edge’,” Bono joked, adding, “I don’t like long albums so we’re going to have to whittle it down to 15.”
The U2 frontman also addressed Larry Mullen Jr.’s medical absence and his relationships within the music industry.

Bono also commented on Oasis, noting that Noel Gallagher is impressed with their sound ahead of their anticipated reunion tour. “I love them. I just love them,” Bono said. “And what I really love is, the preciousness that had gotten [into] indie music, they just blew it out. There was just the swagger, and the sound of getting out of the ghetto, not glamorising it.”
Earlier this year at the 2025 Ivor Novello Awards, after U2 became the first Irish act to receive Fellowship Of The Ivors Academy, Bono used his acceptance speech to advocate for peace in the Gaza-Israel conflict.He called on Hamas to release hostages and for Israel to be “released from Benjamin Netanyahu and the far-right fundamentalists.”
