COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 6) – Junior Claudia Lessig delivered a season-best all-around performance of 38.250 and spearheaded a strong showing on balance beam as the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team posted a total score of 190.325 at the Air Force tri-meet held at Cadet West Gymnasium on Friday.

The Seawolves also received a notable performance from senior Madelyn Gomez, who led the team on vault with a score of 9.65, and contributed a 9.5 on uneven bars.

UAA finished third in the competition, trailing Air Force (195.800) and Utah State (195.400). Full results from the meet are available online.

The Seawolves excelled on the balance beam, securing their top three scores on the event. Lessig achieved a score of 9.85, tying for second place on the podium and equaling the No. 16 balance beam score in UAA history. Freshman Alexandra Karkowski registered a 9.8, while sophomore Jordan Grindol earned a 9.775.

“We had some nice highlights during a tough meet, and our best scores fortunately were good enough to earn a season high,” said UAA head coach Marie-Sophie Boggasch. “Claudia continues to be rewarded for her hard work in the gym, and Alexandra and Jordan showed great skills on beam.”

UAA’s highest event total came on vault, with a combined score of 47.800. Gomez led the way with her 9.65, followed by a 9.625 from sophomore Verena Wong. Sophomore Maribelle Albert contributed a 9.6, and junior Jada Niles scored a 9.575, while Lessig added a 9.35.

Niles was the Seawolves’ top performer on uneven bars, earning a 9.625, closely followed by Lessig with a 9.575.

On floor exercise, senior Ariana DeSouza led the team with a 9.625, and Lessig produced a score of 9.475.

The Seawolves will conclude their road trip on Monday, February 9, at 4:30 p.m. Alaska Standard Time, when they compete against Sacramento State, Southern Utah, and host Utah State at a quad meet in Logan, Utah. Live video and scoring links can be found at GoSeawolves.com.
