UAE Shoppers demand Secure, Seamless Online Shopping Experiences

Updated‍ June 7, 2025

A recent report indicates ‍that consumers in the united Arab Emirates are seeking more ⁣secure and seamless experiences when shopping online. The Visa Checkout Friction Report highlights key challenges that continue to impact customer satisfaction and business⁤ performance despite the growth of e-commerce ⁤and digital adoption in the region.

The report, ⁣based on ⁢a survey of over 2,000 online shoppers across the Gulf Cooperation Council, identifies ⁤security⁤ concerns and complex payment processes as the primary obstacles to smooth transactions. In‍ the‍ UAE, ⁤40% of shoppers⁣ expressed fear of fraud, while 37%⁣ cited ⁤frustration with repeatedly entering ⁤card details.

While shopping frequency remains high,⁤ with one in three UAE consumers purchasing groceries online multiple⁤ times per week and regular monthly purchases in categories like fashion, entertainment,⁣ and electronics, checkout friction can lead to abandoned ‍carts and lost ⁢revenue ⁤for retailers. Visa’s research suggests a⁣ growing preference for advanced⁢ payment technologies to improve the online ‍shopping experience.

Approximately 67% of UAE shoppers said they would use biometric authentication, such ⁢as fingerprint or face ID, for online ⁣checkouts. Furthermore, 65% ⁣support a unified⁤ registration process for digital payments across various websites. The report also notes that 82% of consumers would shop⁣ online more often if one-click checkout options were widely available, and 66% are likely to use Visa’s “Click to Pay with Biometrics” feature.

This feature aims to simplify online shopping by removing the need for manual card entry⁤ and using secure, device-based biometric authentication⁤ to expedite and secure transactions. the demand for secure online shopping and streamlined processes is clear.

Salima Gutieva, Visa’s VP and Country manager for the UAE, said challenges in the online checkout process directly⁤ impact ⁢businesses, leading to lost ‍revenue and hindering customer acquisition⁣ and retention.

“Today’s consumers expect – and deserve ⁢– a more seamless and⁤ secure eCommerce experience. That’s ⁤why⁢ Visa is working with partners to enable solutions like Click to Pay, which leverages biometrics⁢ and tokenisation to⁣ eliminate key pain points and deliver a more ⁤convenient shopping experience,” Gutieva⁢ said.

Gutieva added⁢ that improving these moments not only drives business results but also builds on the ‍UAE ⁢government’s achievements in ⁢building a seamless, secure digital economy.

What’s next

The push for enhanced security and⁤ streamlined processes in online shopping is expected to continue, with more businesses likely to adopt biometric authentication and one-click checkout options to meet consumer demands and reduce friction in the e-commerce experience. This⁣ will likely lead to increased customer satisfaction and revenue growth for retailers in the UAE.
