UAE Midday Break Protects Workers from Summer Heat
The UAE’s annual Midday Break, now in its 21st year, is in effect, prohibiting outdoor work during the hottest hours of the day to protect workers from heat exhaustion and ensure occupational safety. The outdoor work ban, a key component of worker welfare initiatives, runs from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Sept. 15.
Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, UAE Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, recently visited a dubai construction site to review compliance with the summer safety regulations. He was accompanied by senior officials.
Tariq Khansaheb, chairman of Khansaheb Civil Engineering, detailed the company’s efforts to protect its workforce, including providing shaded rest zones, cooling devices, and readily available cold drinking water.
Dr. Al Awar commended Khansaheb’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, emphasizing the private sector’s crucial role in enhancing the UAE’s global labor competitiveness.
Representatives from Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Aster DM Healthcare, and National Food Product Company (NFPC) also participated in the visit, offering workers medical check-ups, refreshments, and educational sessions on preventing heat exhaustion.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) reiterated that employers must provide shaded areas, adequate hydration, first-aid kits, and cooling solutions at job sites during the Midday break.
The ministry urges community members to report any violations or non-compliance by calling 600590000, visiting the official website, or using the smart app.
What’s next
The MoHRE will continue to conduct inspections and awareness campaigns throughout the summer to ensure compliance with the Midday Break regulations and protect the health and safety of workers.
