Ubisoft in Crisis: Gaming Giant Embarks on Major Overhaul Amidst String of Setbacks in 2024
Ubisoft’s Struggles: A Year of Challenges and Controversy
Ubisoft, a renowned game development company, has faced significant challenges in 2024. The company’s three major games, ”Tales of Fury,” “Avatar Pandora’s Frontier,” and “Star Wars: Desperados,” failed to meet expectations. The Japanese controversy and the delay of “Assassin’s Creed: Shadowbringers” further contributed to the company’s struggles.
According to Ubisoft’s latest public goals report for the fiscal year 2024 to 2025, the company’s president, Yves Guillemot, acknowledged the need to improve efficiency while keeping players satisfied. As a result, the company has initiated an internal review under the supervision of the board of directors to enhance its execution capabilities and move towards a more efficient operational model.
Ubisoft has launched several new games in 2024, including “Legend of Fury,” “Avatar Pandora’s Frontier,” “Star Wars: Desperados,” and the free-to-play shooter “Evil Front.” Additionally, the company has released “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” and “Prince of Persia: Reborn,” developed by Evil Empire under license from Dead Cells.
This year, while “Prince of Persia: Reborn” and “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” received excellent reviews, the performance of “Tales of Fury,” “Avatar Pandora’s Frontier,” and “Star Wars: Desperados” was not as impressive. The games sparked controversy online, and no sales or sales results have been disclosed so far.
Ubisoft’s struggles have led to a significant decline in its stock price, which has fallen to levels not seen in over a decade. The company’s board of directors has acknowledged the need for improvement and has initiated an internal review to address the challenges faced by the company.
