Swiss banking giant UBS held approximately $90 million in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) as of June 30, 2026, marking an expansion in regulated digital-asset exposure for the wealth manager, according to a Form 13F filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Aug. 13.
The filing reveals that UBS held roughly 2.5 million shares of the spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund at the close of the second quarter. This total represents an increase from roughly 549,000 shares, valued at about $27 million, at the end of 2025, according to data outlined by news.bitcoin.com.
Derivatives Exposure and Option Shifts
Beyond direct share ownership, UBS reported an increase in derivatives exposure tied to the same fund. According to cryptonews.net reporting on the second-quarter regulatory disclosure, the bank registered a more than 24-fold quarterly increase in call option exposure linked to IBIT.
The Swiss banking group reported holding calls representing 1.95 million underlying IBIT shares as of June 30, up from 80,000 calls three months prior. Conversely, put option exposure moved in the opposite direction. UBS reported puts representing 143,300 underlying shares, marking a roughly 53% decrease from the 303,300 put options recorded at the end of March, according to cryptonews.net.
The regulatory filing does not disclose strike prices or expiration dates, leaving the net directional exposure unclear from the paperwork alone, as noted by cryptonews.net.

Client Demand and Scale of Invested Assets
While the 230% increase in the value of the direct IBIT position during the first half of 2026 represents a sharp percentage jump, the investment remains small relative to the firm’s overall size, according to news.bitcoin.com. UBS managed a record $7.3 trillion in invested assets at the end of the second quarter, making the $90 million IBIT stake account for less than 0.02% of its reported 13F assets.
Form 13F filings cover securities managed under a firm’s investment discretion, meaning the reported shares largely reflect client assets held in wealth-management, advisory, or asset-management accounts rather than a direct corporate wager using bank funds, according to news.bitcoin.com. The data indicates that the position stems from client demand rather than a wholesale firmwide strategy shift toward cryptocurrencies.
The disclosure follows earlier moves by the bank to prepare select private banking clients in Switzerland for access to bitcoin and ether trading, reflecting ongoing developments in the institution’s digital-asset capabilities.
